Shojin cuisine is believed to have been imported to Japan along with the introduction of Buddhism. It originated from monks abstaining from eating fish and meat while earnestly practicing the Buddhist path. Therefore, it is characterized by the use of fresh ingredients such as vegetables, seaweed, soy products, miso, natto, tofu, yuba, wheat gluten, dried foods, sesame, and oil. Despite its simplicity, it places great importance on etiquette.
Temple Town Bento is a creation of our shop, designed to make it easy for you to enjoy Shojin cuisine, which is generally unfamiliar, in a familiar and convenient way, following the example of tea ceremony sweets. Please enjoy it with a refreshing feeling after visiting Zenkoji Temple. (Please allow about 20 minutes for preparation.)
High-quality kuzu starch is dissolved in water and spread thinly over hot water. It is then cooled in ice water and served with black sugar syrup.
Hand-pulled yuba is exceptional when pulled by yourself. Please enjoy it leisurely.
A heavenly vegan dessert made with soy milk and plant-based cream for a creamy and indulgent treat!
Our kaiseki cuisine is popular among local customers for celebrations, memorial services, and banquets. We value the seasonal flavors, delicate attention to serving dishes, and heartfelt hospitality. Please enjoy the essence of kaiseki cuisine. *Menu items may vary depending on the season.
