A Downtown Diner Proud of Its Chagame Noodles and Roast Beef
Asakusa DON is a popular spot known for its diverse menu centered around Chagame noodles and roast beef bowls. The green 'phantom Sanuki noodles,' made with shochu and matcha, offer a chewy texture and a deep umami flavor from the kombu and bonito broth that will make you want to order more. The atmosphere is easy to enter while strolling through Asakusa, and the interior is clean and pleasantly lively. The beef tendon stew bowl has meat that is tender and soft, with burdock, carrots, and taro included, and the egg yolk pairs well with the kimchi. The flavors of the ingredients are well infused, and when eaten with rice, it is irresistibly delicious. The roast beef is moist and tender, and adding a little sauce enhances its aroma, while the seaweed soup has a calming taste. The green, thin udon noodles are elastic, and their smooth texture combined with the kelp and bonito broth is impressive. The staff's explanations are kind, and the interior is decorated with photos from overseas, featuring a corner where you can take pictures in a samurai helmet, adding a playful touch.
3.5
I spotted this place in Asakusa and decided to go in. The interior is filled with many photos and signatures, creating an exciting atmosphere. There are various roast beef menu options, and I was torn as they all looked appealing. The beef tendon stew bowl had very tender meat, and the flavor of the broth paired perfectly with the rice. Mixing in the egg yolk and kimchi added a nice variation to the taste, making it enjoyable until the end. You can also take commemorative photos in a kabuto, which is great for creating memories of your sightseeing.
