Enjoy exquisite crab dishes in a self-service style

Crab Hut is a unique restaurant in Matsue City, Shimane, where you can enjoy seasonal Matsuba crabs and Benizuwai crabs in a self-service style. Inside the warehouse-like setting, you can choose fresh local crabs and grill them right in front of you. The flavor and texture of the Matsuba crab are particularly exceptional, making it an attractive spot to enjoy the fun of cooking for yourself while savoring local delicacies.

At the entrance, the rules are explained carefully, so it's reassuring even for first-timers. The style of choosing your favorite ingredients with a tray is fun, and I ended up taking a lot of Matsuba crab. The fresh Matsuba crab has a rich flavor, and just lightly grilling it brings out its sweetness, which is impressive. A great way to eat it is to pour sake into the crab's shell where the crab miso remains and add grilled rice balls to make a porridge-like dish. There are also various seafood options like scallops and abalone, which provide a nice change of flavor when interspersed. You can choose beer and local sake yourself, so I was able to enjoy it leisurely along with the freshly grilled crab.
