What is Japan?: Japan’s dining scene is often described as a dialogue between seasons, craftsmanship, and regional identity. From sushi, tempura, and kaiseki to ramen, yakitori, and wagashi, menus tend to highlight clarity of flavor and careful presentation. Travelers may notice distinct local styles: Hokkaido’s seafood, Tohoku’s comfort stews, Tokyo’s soba and modern interpretations, Kansai’s okonomiyaki and kushikatsu, Shikoku’s udon, Kyushu’s tonkotsu ramen, and Okinawa’s island influences. Many venues emphasize dashi, fermented seasonings such as miso and soy sauce, and precise knife work. A tradition linked to tea ceremony hospitality is said to shape the understated service and attention to detail found in many dining rooms. Street-side counters, casual izakaya, and refined multicourse experiences coexist, encouraging spontaneous tastings and planned outings alike. Seasonal specials, chef’s selections, and collaborative pop-ups appear in various neighborhoods, suggesting a food culture that balances heritage with ongoing creativity.
What is Crab?: Crab-focused restaurants highlight the sweet, delicate meat and the rich savor drawn from shell and roe. Menus often span simple, heat-driven methods—steamed or boiled to preserve moisture, grilled or roasted to add charred aromatics—and preparations that layer flavor, such as garlic butter, herbs, or spicy seasonings. Diners may encounter chilled legs with citrus and vinegar dips, buttery crab boils, or hands-on platters where cracking shells becomes part of the experience. Classics like crab cakes, creamy bisque, robust chowders, and pasta tossed with picked lump meat appear alongside soft-shell crab, tempura-style frying, or hot pots that concentrate umami into the broth. Some venues present whole crabs for sharing, while others offer tasting courses that move from delicate claw to richer body meat. Sauces vary from drawn butter to tangy aioli and soy-based dressings, and pairings are chosen to emphasize sweetness, minerality, and gentle brine without overshadowing texture.

The course where you can enjoy as much crab and wagyu beef as you like is truly like a dream. The snow crab and king crab are both packed with meat and have a rich sweetness. In particular, the sukiyaki made with Miyazaki beef has a deep flavor in the broth, and when dipped in egg, it becomes melt-in-your-mouth tender. The vegetables and tofu also absorb the umami, making it hard to put down the chopsticks. The restaurant is clean, and the staff kindly explains everything, so even first-timers can enjoy it with peace of mind. The cute illustrated door and the smiles of the international guests left a strong impression, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.

I visited Crab Balloon for the first time this time. I had the king crab and snow crab lunch set. It was very delicious, and I was full and satisfied. The only disappointment was that in the photo of the snow crab set, there was crab sashimi, but there was only a little crab sashimi, and it was mostly tuna and other sashimi. I chose the snow crab set because I wanted to eat crab sashimi, so it was disappointing. However, the food was delicious, so I would like to go again. Thank you, it was a feast.

On our wedding anniversary, my wife requested, 'I want to eat delicious crab,' so we visited Mahoroba Crab, recommended by a friend.
I have been to many restaurants before, but here I experienced dishes and presentations that I had never encountered, and in a good way, my expectations were exceeded.
We had a luxurious course using one live snow crab per person. The food was, of course, delicious, but the presentation of each dish, the timing of the service, and the ambiance were all meticulously crafted, making it possibly the best restaurant I have ever visited.
The completely private room was also a great point, allowing us to relax without worrying about the surroundings, even with children. The staff's consideration was wonderful, and naturally, the conversation with my wife flowed, making it an unforgettable day for our family. It is a place I would like to visit again on a special day.
Thank you for the wonderful time.

I made a reservation and enjoyed a full course of Echizen crab bliss. Starting with sashimi, then seiko crab, crab sashimi, boiled crab, and crab rice, everything was delicious. The boiled crab was prepared by the staff, so I could enjoy my meal without getting my hands dirty. Since I was the only one not driving, I enjoyed some sake paired with the dishes. I also had grilled mackerel sushi, which was very tasty. I definitely want to go eat there again. Thank you for providing such a wonderful time today.

Crab Specialties!
When was the last time you ate crab?
A friend of mine invited me to go out for a bit of a luxurious crab dinner.
I was thrilled and excited to visit!
When I arrived at the 4th floor of the building, there was only an intercom!
I pressed the button and told them my name, and then went inside the restaurant.
The restaurant has three private rooms.
Each room has a different concept.
There were 4 of us and it was very spacious.
The course we reserved this time was
Chef`sTableCOURSE 18,000 yen
We were so fired up, we were going to taste a lot of crab!
Everyone sipped on bubbles!
It seems like toasting with bubbles is a ritual these days!
Four pieces of crab were brought to the table!
11-year-old tagged snow crab from Niigata Prefecture!
Wow! It's been so long since I've seen such a big crab!
Luxuriously, one pie for each of us!
And they cook it from start to finish right in front of us!
No need to get your hands dirty, just eat! The ultimate in luxury!
Appetizer

The autumnal appearance of the dishes will soothe you, and the food will heal you, too!
Full Course Snow Crab
Sashimi!
I have never had such a sticky crab before!
Even if you pull on it, the meat is so firm that you can't get it off!
It's hard to get it off!
It's sweet and juicy, and you can only eat this sashimi because it's fresh!
Ponzu (Japanese sauce made from ponzu (citrus juice) mixed with crab miso (soy sauce).
This is another way to eat it!
Charcoal Grill
The aroma while grilling is irresistible!
The fragrant meat is totally different from the raw one, and the sudachi (Japanese citrus juice) is squeezed on the meat to make it juicy and juicy!
Boiled claws
The meat is so soft and fluffy, it's different from raw and grilled.
The texture of the meat is fluffy and different from both raw and grilled meat.
The crystalline salt is soooo gentle on the palate!
This combination is also as good as it gets!
Miso Shabu Shabu
Shabu-shabu in a warmed shell!
This is a bad way to eat it, isn't it?
When served with a lot of miso, the miso has a nice bitter taste and is very rich!
The crab miso I used to eat was just bitter!
This way of eating it is a foul technique, isn't it?
It was so, so, so delicious!

I was first excited to see the craftsman skillfully preparing crabs at the counter. When I compared the sashimi of live king crabs, snow crabs, and hairy crabs, I could clearly distinguish the sweetness and texture differences of the meat. After that, the cooking methods changed one after another, including rare, boiled, grilled, tempura, and shabu-shabu, and I was never bored. The fragrant grilled crab was particularly rich in flavor, and it was so delicious that everyone fell silent. The finishing crab porridge was luxuriously made with black truffle, and it was the most shocking porridge I have ever eaten. Even the refreshing fruits for dessert were carefully prepared, making it a wonderful restaurant where the excitement continued from start to finish.
