I have eaten in some fabulous restaurants across the world. This is one of the best. From the quality of the food to the care taken in the preparation, it was perfect. The experience felt like I was sitting at the Chef’s table, learning and tasting the most wonderful food. You MUST try to get a reservation. This will be my first stop next time I am in Kyoto

Personal service and fabulous food. We were treated to 11 small plates that were beautifully plated with hints on how best to use any sauces. It was a lovely evening with a warm and cozy atmosphere.

Best restaurant we have ever been to. If you are in Kyoto it is a must! The food was incredible, the staff and owners were so nice and welcoming, the mountain and river view was beautiful… Every plate was extremely unique and tasteful. It’s worth every yen.

Unbelievably good. What an experience, the variety (not just tempura!), the family that run it, watching the team of chefs at work, and the flavours. I cannot recall a more enjoyable lunch, ever, and I have been thinking for the last few days. If you are in Kyoto, you MUST consider Tempura Matsu.

I had only been there for lunch, but this was my first time going for dinner. The evening was amazing❗This is what Matsu is all about. The service is fun, the carefully selected ingredients are full of flavor, the decor is tasteful, and the precious dishes are amazing. The sake was mainly from Kyoto, which is understandable considering that many of the customers are from outside of the prefecture, but for us local customers, it would have been nice to have a little more sake from all over the country. But as I expected, they seem to be prepared to meet our expectations. A first-rate business will meet all expectations and go above and beyond what you can imagine. This restaurant is truly one of those first-class places. Of course, it is not cheap, but the food, service, and setting are worth it. One thing to note is that payment is by cash only. I highly recommend you visit.

Would NOT recommend this place for Kawasaki dinner…. Massively overpriced and ambience/ service not to Japanese or Michelin guide standard. We went here while on a two week trip based on a referral and were massively disappointed - especially since it costs close to £300 for two of us. We left early before the tasting menu was completed due to how poor the experience was over all.
