A restaurant where you can enjoy hearty katsudon

Located in Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture, "Kanjuro" is a dining spot renowned for its generous katsudon. The thick cutlet is coated in a crispy batter and seasoned with a subtly sweet flavor, enhanced further by the egg binding. The mini udon or soba that can be enjoyed alongside the katsudon features a delicious broth rich in bonito dashi.

The shop we stopped at halfway up the mountain path had a variety of seating options, from tables to tatami mats, creating a relaxed atmosphere. Although we had to wait a little after placing our order, the anticipation was exciting as the freshly made dishes arrived. The cold soba noodles had a strong texture, and the shorter noodles slid down smoothly, providing a pleasant experience. The dipping sauce, rich in bonito flavor, was sharp yet savory, pairing perfectly with the noodles. The freshly fried tempura, including shrimp and vegetables, was light and crispy, and the subtle sauce allowed the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine. The portion was substantial, making it a dish that could recharge your energy during a drive.
