Heartwarming Irori Cuisine to Savor Nature's Bounty

Iwaya is a charming irori (sunken hearth) restaurant with a striking thatched roof. The wild boar and grilled amago trout cooked over the irori showcase the local natural bounty, leaving you in awe of their deliciousness. Fresh vegetables and rice are also not to be missed, especially the freshly cooked rice, which is exquisite. You can enjoy a relaxing time along with the warm glow of the fire.

Fun only at this time of the year! Adults' excursion @ Tanba Sasayama | Delicious food and happiness♪ Botan-nabe must be eaten at Iwaya-san! Every month, we look forward to our monthly foodie get-togethers! Since last season, we have been waiting for the right time to eat botan nabe for a long, long time! Finally, the day came~ We visited in January! As we took the train to Tanba-Sasayamaguchi Station, the snow began to accumulate. My spirits were rising! From the station, we took a shuttle bus to the store. Between the mountains where the store is located, the amount of snow gradually increases, and it becomes a silver world! We have arrived at Iwaya! The snow is piled up like this, and the tension is maxed out! They were so excited that they were throwing snowballs at their friends! The fluffy, light snow makes me want to play with it a little! No, no, no, we're going to eat button pot! Inside the restaurant, only the tatami room has a sunken hearth here and there, and the smell of the gas stove is somehow nostalgic! Look at the boar and his son! The dishes available are different depending on the season. From November to March, botan nabe is available! That's why we came here! What a wonderful atmosphere! Awasuki The drink was sparkling sake! Sweet and very easy to drink! On the other hand, for those who like sake, it feels like juice! TSUCHIDASHI Edamame (black soy beans) The beans are firm and delicious! Botan nabe Boar meat ・Vegetable When it is warmed up, vegetables and meat are added! Ready to serve! Miso is red miso based and has a deep, deep flavor! On this cold day, the hot soup is soaked in its own juices! The boar meat has a lot of fat on it, but when you try it, you will be surprised at how light it is! And it has no habits at all! It's so, so delicious! The vegetables were also plentiful, including taro, mushrooms, and Chinese cabbage! Finally, after pouring an egg on top of the rice and stirring it in, we put it on top of the rice and eat it! This is so delicious and makes me so happy! The half-boiled egg and miso goes well with rice! I also ordered another dish! ■Boar Frank This sausage is made from 100% boar meat! It is not as juicy as the sausage, but it has a meaty and umami taste! Grilled Codfish with Salt The fish is grilled slowly on a skewer next to the pot! They were alive a while ago, so they wiggle from time to time! I'm going to enjoy it! The grilled sea eel is fragrant, and the salt is sprinkled on top, but it's just the right amount. Because it was grilled slowly, the meat was plump - a completely different flavor from the one you get on the grill! It tastes better when eaten wild in a place like this! Shochu with Bachiwari! It's beautiful and nice with a slice of yuzu! I can't drink shochu, but I just wanted to try this! ■Sasagogane Sasakogane is Sasayama's traditional rice cake made from Koshihikari and mochi rice, roasted on the hearth and baked with homemade miso for a savory taste! This is also grilled next to the amago. Slowly and deliberately, it took quite a long time over a long fire! The last step is to finish it with miso paste. It's so hot that it almost burns you, but it's so good to eat it while huffing and puffing! Like Gohei-mochi, the rice cake has a firm texture like Ohagi (rice cakes) and is very sticky and delicious! Botan-nabe served in this atmosphere! It is very delicious and warms you up! Perhaps it was because there was a lot of snow on the ground that day, so it felt especially warming. I am glad I came at the right time of the year! We all loved it so much that we decided to go back next season! It was a bit hectic with the two-hour time limit, but we'll see you next year! Thank you very much for the food!
