A specialty restaurant where you can enjoy exquisite eel dishes

Sumibiyaki Unagi Ryori Komekichi opened as one of the few eel specialty restaurants in Hirosaki and is loved by both locals and tourists. You can see the cooking process from inside the restaurant, and the eel grilled right in front of you is served with a fragrant aroma and perfect grilling. Along with the attentive service, you can savor a variety of dishes that highlight the characteristics of the Tsugaru region. The use of Tsugaru glass and Tsugaru lacquerware for the dishes is also one of the charms that reflects local pride.

The interior is new and clean, and it's exciting to be able to view the grilling area through the glass. The first dish that came out, the bone crackers, were crispy and fragrant, pairing perfectly with the cold green tea. The chawanmushi, typical of Tsugaru, was sweet and contained chestnuts, offering a comforting flavor. The grilled eel was fresh and light without any unpleasant smell, and when paired with wasabi, the umami flavor was enhanced. The unaju had a pleasant charcoal aroma, and I appreciated being able to choose the sweetness of the sauce, with extra sauce and sansho pepper also available. The atmosphere created by the Tsugaru glassware and the lacquered boxes is lovely, allowing for a relaxed enjoyment while feeling a sense of local charm.
