Akagara Miyakojima

Home-style dishes that make use of Miyako Island’s rich ingredients are available, such as Miyako Island Agu pork and Miyako beef, deep-fried gurukun caught in the waters near Irabu Island, and slowly simmered rafute (braised pork belly). You can enjoy a wide range of authentic Okinawan cuisine, including classic squid-ink yakisoba, chewy jimami tofu (peanut tofu), sea grapes, mozuku tempura, and aasa egg (seaweed omelette). There are also many all-you-can-drink course options, and the island nights deepen with Orion beer and awamori.

The warm, family-run interior offers a total of 70 seats, including counter, table, and sunken kotatsu seating. Every night there are two stages of live island-song performances at 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM, with everything from soulful folk songs to uptempo dance tunes that bring the whole audience together in excitement. Its convenient location, a five-minute walk from Miyako City Hall, creates a pleasant, lively atmosphere where locals and tourists mingle.

Opened on July 13, 2010, it has put down roots in Miyakojima’s downtown entertainment district, Hirara Nishizato. The island’s traffic safety mascot, “Miyakojima Mamoru-kun,” performs the nightly finale of the live shows — a signature production that spread by word of mouth and helped the venue grow into a popular establishment that is fully booked two months in advance. As a representative entertainment dining hall of Miyakojima, it attracts many repeat tourists and has long been loved as a staple nighttime spot on the island.
