A Hidden Gem of Chinese Cuisine in a Residential Area

Netsuretsu Shanghai Shokudo is a charming restaurant that offers authentic Chinese cuisine in a beautifully renovated traditional house. The classic dishes, especially the Mapo Tofu and Dan Dan Noodles, are highly praised for their robust flavors. The menu features a variety of dishes, with the fried chicken with garlic soy sauce and spring rolls being particularly popular.

In a quiet residential area stands a house, and upon entering, a calming space that blends Japanese and Chinese styles unfolds. The mapo tofu I ordered had a perfect balance of the acidity of tomatoes and the spiciness of green chili peppers, making it hard to stop eating the rice. The aroma rising from the hot dish instantly whetted my appetite. The side dishes, including small bowls and salads, were all carefully prepared and served as the perfect palate cleansers. The almond tofu for dessert had an unexpected flavor that gently reset my mouth, which had become warm from the spiciness. The variety of noodles and the evening's special dishes are also appealing, and just looking at the menu fills me with excitement.
