The origin of soup dumplings is said to be in 1871 when Huang Mingxian, the owner of a pastry shop called 'Guyiyuan' in Nanxiang Town, Jiading County, China, introduced the 'Nanxiang Large Meat Bun.' The Nanxiang Large Meat Bun became popular and was quickly imitated by competitors. Subsequently, improvements were made to enlarge the filling and thin the skin, adding technical enhancements to make it difficult to replicate. This led to the sale of 'Guyiyuan Nanxiang Soup Dumplings,' which quickly gained fame as a renowned bun.
