The origin of Kaika Steak dates back to August 1869, when Onoya Kurou opened a Western-style restaurant in Yokohama, marking the beginning of restaurants in our country. At that time, most customers were foreigners, and it was rare for Japanese people to eat Western food. Later, Kurou moved to Kannai and reopened the restaurant under the name Kaiyotei, gradually attracting more Japanese patrons. Particularly, the pride of the restaurant, the beef steak, gained great popularity for its unique flavor. The Bunmei Kaika Steak is a dish that faithfully recreates the taste from that era, and it is a specialty of our establishment.
The signature dish 'Kaika Steak' at Bashamichi Jubankan is the taste of steak from the time when Western cuisine began in Yokohama. It is a steak marinated in Kaika sauce, which is based on soy sauce, mirin, and sake, and then grilled. The a la carte and dinner course Kaika Steak uses black-haired Wagyu beef, but for lunch, we use Australian beef fillet, making it an easy and enjoyable option.
