Traditional Shojin Cuisine to Experience the Spirit of Zen

Izusen Daijiin is located within the historic Daitoku-ji temple and offers visitors a blend of Zen and Kyoto's traditions through its shojin cuisine. Each dish is served in a bowl shaped like a iron pot, stacked in a way that provides a sense of surprise and enjoyment, much like a matryoshka doll. My wife and I had the Ayame course. The flavors were robust, and the variety and volume were plentiful, providing a level of satisfaction that one wouldn't expect from vegetarian cuisine. The approach after entering Daijiin was adorned with blue and red leaves and hydrangeas, further heightening our expectations for the restaurant. The cost-performance and time-performance were both highly satisfying, and if I have acquaintances who are interested in vegetarian cuisine, I would want to recommend it first.

I loved it. The vegetarian dishes were absolutely delicious and it was wonderful getting temple rounds to get there. My husband, I basically ate everything. It was a bit difficult to find inside the temple ground, but worth it. Great kaiseki meal for the less adventurous for those that don’t really love seafood/ meat.

It was a beautiful and delicious meal. All the dishes were presented beautifully. The dining room and the walk through the temple set a very tranquil atmosphere. I really enjoyed my unique experience at this Restaurant.
