Supremely high quality fruit from a stellar vintage contributes greatly to this iconic champagne. 'Rare' is the Prestige Cuvée of maison Piper-Heidsieck and is only produced in years when mother nature unleashes its force. Heralded as a flawless year in Champagne, 2002 saw perfect ripeness levels in the vineyard, balanced by the right level of acidity. This particular version of Rare – only the 8th to be produced since 1976 – has an exotic nose of ginger, pineapple, lemon curd and almond with a wonderful purity of sweet fruit, tempered by mineral-tinged mouthfeel. To maintain purity of fruit, oak barrels are eschewed in favour of stainless steel. Minimum lees ageing is 8 years, though most bottles have seen over 10 years. Dosage is 9.5g/l

A Demi-Sec NV Champagne constructed from the base wine blended from 100 crus for the Brut NV and then aged for a fourth year on its lees. Dominated by Pinot Noir, the wine's character is defined by an increased dosage (to 35g/l of residual sugar), older reserve wines and further ageing (up to nine months after disgorgement). A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir from just 8 crus around the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. Supremely high quality fruit from a stellar vintage contributes greatly to this iconic champagne. 'Rare' is the Prestige Cuvée of maison Piper-Heidsieck and is only produced in years when mother nature unleashes its force. Heralded as a flawless year in Champagne, 2002 saw perfect ripeness levels in the vineyard, balanced by the right level of acidity. This particular version of Rare – only the 8th to be produced since 1976 – has an exotic nose of ginger, pineapple, lemon curd and almond with a wonderful purity of sweet fruit, tempered by mineral-tinged mouthfeel.
