I like 551, but I also like Lao Xiang Ji. If I had to choose a popular restaurant in Chinatown, it would be this one or Est Royal, the main Chinatown restaurant. My mother loved the pork buns here, and whenever she went to Kobe, she always brought these as souvenirs! Actually, I've never been to the store. My mother always bought them for me in a row... It makes it taste even better! Pork buns at 90 yen a piece (you can only buy in quantities of 3). The little pork buns have a soft and chewy skin! The filling is sweet and spicy with a hint of soy sauce. They are really small, so you can eat about 5 of them easily! By the way, 551 is limited to 2 pieces... This time, I looked at the pamphlet of Lao Xiang Ji, and it said that it is delicious baked or fried. I'm going to try it fried and baked! I went there around 12:00 on a public holiday and was able to buy it without waiting that long, probably because of the coronavirus. If you are going for the first time, beware of the line! The line is cut off in the middle to make room for aisles, so first-time visitors are quite likely to be mistaken for first-timers and be warned by the security staff. The line always extends to the plaza. You can eat inside the restaurant, but it is quite small and since we had a baby stroller, we could not go inside and decided to eat in the plaza. You can buy from 3 pieces for 100 yen each. Each one is small and you can eat it in about 2 bites if you go for a big gulp. The dough is thick and a little sweet. The filling is not as much as it looks, but it has a strong flavor, so the balance is just right. If you eat it right after you buy it, you need to be careful because the gravy may overflow. Although it is small in size, it is very tasty with a rich flavor and impact. I will go back again!
