The weaning ceremony is a celebration to commemorate the 100th day after birth, and is a ceremony in which the baby is made to imitate eating in the hope that he or she will have no trouble eating for the rest of his or her life. The menu consists of a tai (sea bream) head, sekihan (red rice), clam soup, simmered dishes, and juzu no mono (a special kind of food for the baby's birthday).
