I called Nanaji early in the New Year to make a reservation, as reservations for the following month become available after the first day of each month. It was the second night of our trip to Kyoto. We left Arashiyama and headed for Sanjo in the snowy weather. With the help of Google Maps, we passed through the bustle of the downtown area and saw the words "Oshokuji Nanaji". I passed through the curtain and told the owner my name, and he invited me to sit at the counter right in front of him. The nostalgic and warm atmosphere of the restaurant was comforting. Dishes are only a la carte. From the first appetizer, I was convinced that I liked this restaurant, and decided to leave everything to the owner. I told him that I prefer dry sake, and left the rest to him. I knew that whatever I ordered would be delicious, and I was right. I had never tasted any of the seven skewers before, but they were all excellent. The owner, who was quiet at first, gradually opened his heart to us, and at the end, his wife joined us for a chat. We also had a chance to hear the story of his daughter, the origin of the restaurant's name. I sincerely hope to stop by every time I visit Kyoto. ▶︎ Area & Genre Search
