Barbera is an Italian red wine grape variety primarily grown in the northwestern region of Piedmont. In September 2024, Oud Beersel received 450kg of Barbera grapes from friends at the Piedmont agricultural cooperative Valli Unite and steeped them in 3-year-old lambic for two months. The fruitiness is not overly sweet or dull, but rather has a round and gentle enveloping quality, with a long finish, as the fruit expands in the mouth. It has a transparent fruit flavor, and its smoothness with no rough edges makes it an ideal wine to enjoy slightly chilled.
