Sushi Murasaki

The lunch specialty is a sushi set of eight pieces of nigiri served with either clear sea soup or pork miso soup, featuring seasonal toppings such as sea bream, tuna, squid, greater amberjack, gizzard shad, kuruma shrimp, and egg. The rice is molded lightly and the moderate amount of wasabi is well regarded. In the evening you can enjoy sashimi platters and seasonal a la carte dishes, many of which pair excellently with Japanese sake.

The small yet tranquil interior, centered on ten counter seats, is attractive as a space where you can enjoy your meal while conversing with the chef-owner. Because of its location near many business hotels around Hakata Station, a wide range of customers visit, from business travelers on work trips to regular local patrons and inbound visitors from overseas. The chef-owner's pleasant personality draws regulars and creates a comfort that makes people want to come back again and again.

Located near the east exit of Hakata Station, the shop became widely known after being featured in a local gourmet magazine's sushi special. The owner has single-handedly run lunch and dinner for many years, and, while beloved by local regulars in a corner of the business district, it has become established as a hidden gem in Hakata that now also attracts inbound visitors.
