In the basement food section of the department store, there is a delightful array of salted and dried fish, pickled items, and jars lined up, making it fun to choose. Most of the products are for takeout, which is great because I can enjoy them slowly at home. The soy sauce marinated salmon roe has just the right amount of saltiness and the unique sweetness of the roe, making it very elegant and pairs well with rice. The salmon chazuke features tender flakes of fatty salmon, and when poured over freshly cooked rice, the aroma of shochu wafts up, creating an irresistible deliciousness. The grilled scallop teriyaki has a combination of cheese and brandy flavors, and just placing it on crackers or kamaboko makes for a perfect small snack. Many items are also perfect for gifts, and just having them in the refrigerator brightens my mood.
