In the early Kamakura period, there was a Biwa priest. His name was Hoizan Kengyo, the 19th head priest of Jorakuin in Kyoto. The head priest was ordered by Minamoto no Yoritomo to enter Satsuma and Fukiage as a prayer monk alongside the founder of the Shimazu clan, Shimazu Tadahisa. To honor the achievements of the Kengyo, who engaged in various activities for the happiness of the people, Lord Tadahisa established 'Nakajima Jorakuin'. However, one night, a tornado occurred along with a thunderstorm that struck the earth, and a giant serpent descended from the sky. The Kengyo then played the biwa, which was seen as an omen of good fortune, and continued to pray earnestly. As a result, the giant serpent transformed into a great dragon and swam away into the black clouds. Originally, Nakajima Jorakuin was located by a large lake, but as the sky brightened and dawn approached, the water gradually receded, and the area became flat land. Eventually, it is said that this place became farmland and brought wealth to the people. The legendary Kengyo Hoizan, which has been passed down through such tales, is the origin of names like 'Kiccho Hoizan', 'Hakuten Hoizan', and 'Tomi no Hoizan' in the Hoizan series.

Satsuma Hoizan was brewed in commemoration of this, expressing a rich sweetness and creamy texture by carefully layering the sweet potatoes and allowing them to ferment slowly.
Alcohol content: 25 degrees. Ingredients: Satsuma sweet potato (Kagoshima Prefecture, Kogane Senkan), rice koji (yellow koji/domestic rice). Brewed with yellow koji. The aroma at the moment of pouring into the glass is light, and the flavor when sipped is deep. It features a refreshing citrus aroma and a crisp mouthfeel.

It is distilled from moromi using home-cultured yeast, scooping up the rich raw spirit that has just dripped down, resulting in a bottle that captures the essence of the sweet potato at its most concentrated. This is a suggestion for frozen shochu. It has a faint peach aroma, and while rich, it has a light drinking experience. Please enjoy it chilled in the freezer.

The potential of the sweet potato has been perfected through aging. The subtle sweetness and the elegant umami that lingers afterward are indeed the characteristics of the sweet potato. The passage of time has deepened and brightened the aroma of the sweet potato.

The direct pressure indirect distillation cultivated with sweet potatoes brings out the deliciousness of barley without reservation. The initial aroma has a sharp impression, with a base scent of roasted barley. This shochu is popular on the rocks or with water.
